A video shoot gives your business footage. A video marketing strategy decides what that footage needs to accomplish, where it will run, and what happens when someone responds. Those decisions belong together, particularly when production and advertising draw from the same budget.
What the latest IAB research tells us
In its May 2026 forecast, IAB projected that U.S. digital video advertising would exceed $80 billion in 2026, up 11% year over year. Its definition includes connected TV, online video and social video. This is a market forecast, not a return-on-investment benchmark for an individual business. Source: IAB, May 5, 2026.
IAB’s July summit recap, discussing the full report, also describes a stronger focus on audience delivery and targeting, particularly among smaller buyers. The commercial question is becoming more specific: which audience did the campaign reach, and what did that audience do? Source: IAB, July 17, 2026.
Our recommendation: use this research as a reason to connect your media decisions, not as a reason to copy larger advertisers’ budgets. A local practice and a national brand can need very different channels, production volumes and evaluation periods.
Give the production brief a business job
Before choosing a camera setup or filming date, write down the offer, the intended customer, the question that stops that customer moving forward, and the next action you want them to take. A founder explaining how an engagement works needs a different script from a clinician introducing a consultation process.
Then assign a purpose to each piece. An introduction can establish who you are. A detailed explanation can answer an objection. A short invitation can direct an interested viewer to the relevant service page. One video does not have to perform all three jobs.
Plan the edits before you film
A useful shoot plan specifies the different openings, explanations and supporting shots the editor will need. Record clean sound, leave enough pauses for editing, and capture framing that suits the chosen destinations. Plan separate cuts for genuinely different messages rather than exporting the same advertisement in several shapes and calling that a strategy.
For an expert or personal brand, a practical starting point is a small set of recurring customer questions. Record a complete answer, a concise version, and supporting examples. For a medical or aesthetic practice, include a named reviewer in the production plan so the approved explanation survives the edit.
Connect every campaign to a useful destination
Check the experience after the video. Does the landing page describe the same service? Is the next step clear on a phone? Can someone find the information they need before booking? An elegant video cannot repair a confusing route from interest to inquiry.
Give each test a defined question: which opening attracts the relevant audience, which explanation leads to deeper interest, or which invitation produces useful inquiries? Change a limited set of variables so the next production decision can draw on what you learned.
Measure beyond the view count
Use a simple sequence for reporting: attention, engagement, inquiry and qualified outcome. A view and a booking click can be useful signals, but neither proves that a consultation took place or that a sale was made. Agree how the business will report lead quality back to the people planning the next content cycle.
For example, if inquiries repeatedly ask about a service you do not offer, the problem may be the message or targeting rather than the amount of footage. If suitable people inquire but cannot find an available appointment, buying more traffic may be the wrong next step.
When a coordinated media team makes sense
A focused internal team may be enough for a narrow, occasional content need. A coordinated media partner becomes useful when strategy, filming, editing, publishing and advertising must move together and no one inside the business has time to manage every handoff.
Ask a prospective partner who owns the brief, who checks the destination, how feedback reaches the next shoot, and what the reporting will actually explain. Khodakovska Media’s approach brings these responsibilities into one team and one connected system, with the business goal setting the direction.
